The United Kingdom and Germany have entered into a new defence agreement aimed at bolstering maritime security in the North Atlantic. Under this pact, Germany will deploy P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft from RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland starting next year. This marks the first time in over 25 years that German aircraft will be based in the UK. The collaboration focuses on tracking Russian submarine activities and includes plans to develop a new long-range strike weapon with a range of up to 2,000 miles. Additionally, the UK will commence domestic production of artillery gun barrels for the first time in a decade. This agreement signifies a significant enhancement in UK-Germany defence relations and aims to strengthen European security amidst rising concerns over Russian military activities.
