The UK Government has secured a £9 billion contract with Rolls-Royce Submarines Ltd, named the ‘Unity’ contract, to support the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet. This initiative is a cornerstone of the Government’s “Plan for Change,” strengthening national security and delivering significant economic growth. Key highlights include:

•Economic Impact: Creation of over 1,000 UK jobs and safeguarding 4,000 more, contributing to long-term economic stability and resilience across the supply chain.

•Efficiency Gains: Streamlined contracts promise taxpayer savings of £400 million over the eight-year term through improved delivery and cost management.

•National Security Commitment: The deal supports the nuclear deterrent ‘triple-lock,’ which includes building new Dreadnought-class submarines, ensuring continuous at-sea deterrence, and future-proofing submarine capabilities.

•Partnership Strengthening: Enhances collaboration between industry and government, aligning with the Defence Industrial Strategy and bolstering the AUKUS partnership with the USA and Australia.

Defence Secretary John Healey highlighted the deal as a long-term investment in British defence and an example of defence driving economic growth while ensuring taxpayer value.
